Unlike sclerotherapy, there is no post-treatment requirement such as limited activity or wearing compression stockings. With laser vein treatment, unwanted blood vessels on the face, around the eyes, on the legs, and other areas of the body can be treated effectively. Because we have several different laser systems, we can treat a wide range of vessels, including small red and larger bluish veins. Skin cooling technology minimizes downtime and can achieve long-lasting results.
Laser light is pulsed on the skin surface and is selectively absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood vessels, damaging the vessel walls. Small vessels may disappear immediately. Some residual vessels will gradually resolve over the next few weeks. The cryogen technology incorporated in our laser systems allow for specific treatment of the targeted blood vessels, while keeping the skin surface comfortable.
Treated areas should not be exposed to sunlight. It is highly recommended that sun screen be used before and after the treatment. Cold compressors may be applied to reduce discomfort. As with most facial laser treatments Retin A and other retinoids should not be used 1-2 weeks before and after treatments.
Ideal for individuals who have developed unsightly veins on the face (often associated with rosacea), thighs and lower legs or have multiple red spots (cherry angiomas) on the body. Patients with poor circulation or diabetes should not undergo this procedure. Individuals with a medical history of poor healing are not ideal candidates. Also, patients who use blood thinners are not recommended for this treatment.
Ranges from a small pricking sensation for small red vessels to a snapping feeling for larger bluish veins.
Several minutes to half hour depending on size of area treated.
There is a transient flush and in some cases swelling after the treatment which may take minutes to days to settle, depending on size and location of areas treated. Occasional, mild bruising occurs which may take a few days or up to a week to resolve.
The majority of treated vessels will fade or disappear following one to two treatments. Leg veins may take several treatments depending on extent and expectations.
